California is the largest US state by population with currently some 38 million inhabitants with the trend going upward. The so-called Golden State encompasses a large part of the American Pacific Coast and borders the Mexican state of Baja California in the South.

On its length of 1240 kilometers and its width of 400 kilometers, California presents itself with a broad-ranging versatility and a perpetually changing scenery. From desert in the South all the way to snow covered peaks in the North, from megacities along the coast to the most productive agricultural areas in the center of the state, California offers new perspectives everywhere.

At least a part of the appeal California has on many people is based on its history. In earlier times, it was the gold rush that attracted thousands of fortune hunters to the West while today it’s the illusions made in Los Angeles or the innovations developed in Silicon Valley by which people are fascinated.

When adding the facts that California in large parts has a mediterranean climate, has places worth seeing like Yosemite National Park, San Jose, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur or San Diego and always develops new cultural trends in cities like San Francisco, then a picture develops which makes the Pacific Coast state a perennially popular travel destination which is drawing hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world.
